Only they slightly modified the ping signal so that the phone replies to it but it doesn't ring.

Your phone doesn't suddenly ring because the police is going to track you.

You do not notice that your phone has been pinged.

But it does reply so that your phone sends a signal back.

So here we have our little region full of cell phone towers and the red dot that you see that is the phone.

And all of these cell phone towers send the ping signal your phone receives it and it replies.

Now mobile phone doesn't have a very very big range so only these four cell phone towers receive the reply signal from the phone.

Now the police already knows that you are somewhere in that area.

Now the police only needs three towers to track your location.

So they are not going to use the tower that is the furthest away from the phone.

How do they know that? Well the phone replied to the ping so all of these four towers receive their signal.

The tower that received the weakest signal is the furthest away so they are not going to use that.

The police is going to use these three towers.

Now what they do is they measure the signal strength on this tower which tells them the distance of the phone from that tower which is about that.

Now they have a problem because they still don't know the point where that phone is.

They know that it could be in a circle all the way around that tower or that at that distance.

Growing concern about Tesla's fully self-driving function on this Monday critics rallied outside the office of administrative hearings in Oakland.

Those cars are crashing people are getting hurt and people are dying.

It's an issue that the federal government and ABC 7 have been investigating since 2018 that's when Apple engineer Walter Huang was killed after his Tesla crashed in Mountain View while in autopilot mode.

Then in 2022 surveillance video captured a white Tesla triggering an eight car pileup on the bay bridge after suddenly breaking.

The Tesla's driver claimed it happened while the car was in full self-driving mode.

Those crashes and many more leading to Monday's hearing to review a suit filed by the California DMV asking for a 30-day suspension on Tesla to prevent it from selling or manufacturing cars in the Golden State.

The DMV maintains that Tesla misled people in the fully self-driving function.

UC Berkeley professor Scott Moira is an expert in batteries, EVs and automated vehicles.

Tesla has a technology product that they have branded as FSD which stands for fully self-driving.

Moira says Tesla's automated technology is not at 100% yet.

It doesn't drive by itself completely in all situations and the driver can have brain off and not pay attention.

Tesla argues that consumers are smart and regardless of what their advertising says, people know that they are not autonomous.

Ha School of Business professor James Solick explains how Tesla has marketed itself regarding the fully self-driving feature and what a suspension and sales and manufacturing would do to its brand.

Tesla has always pushed the envelope on this issue and promoted its capabilities and put its toe over the line if nothing else.

Tesla is already facing a long list of bad news. This would be one more piece contributing to that.
